Crossing Borders programme Phase 2 (West Africa) under way

The Department of English and Creative Writing at Lancaster University is running a distance-learning programme for African writers who already have some experience in poetry, fiction or writing for young people in English. Each writer is linked to an experienced UK-based mentor, who gives close attention to participants’ work through email exchange.

Target countries for Phase 2 of the programme are Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria. Participants will be recruited during November for induction in December. Tutorials by email will run from January to June, with live creative workshops in July.

The mentoring programme for Phase 1 countries, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, began in September and will run till March 2003, followed by live creative workshops.

Crossing Borders, an initiative of the British Council and Lancaster University, aims to support the development of networks of African creative writers working in English.
