Montreal selected as World Book Capital 2005

At a meeting held in Paris on 16 February, representatives of the International Publishers Association (IPA), International Booksellers Federation (IBF), International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and UNESCO chose the city of Montreal as World Book Capital 2005.

According to the selection committee, Montreal submitted a programme which demonstrated ‘a strong synergy among all sectors of book industry and including a number of aspects of book promotion and reading’. Submissions from Barcelona and Turin were also commended.
